VOCABULARY:
- of the time - on every occasion; very often or frequently
speech comprehension - the way in which you understand something by listening to the language used when talking
reading comprehension - the way in which you understand something by getting information from books or texts
sign language - a system of hand and body movements representing words, used by and to people who cannot hear or talk
recognition - the fact of knowing someone or something because you have seen or heard him or her or experienced it before
parallel - used to describe an event or situation that happens at the same time as and/or is similar to another one
parallel processor - can do different multiple things at the same time
theory - something suggested as a reasonable explanation for facts, a condition, or an event, esp. a systematic or scientific explanation
assess - to decide the quality or importance of something, or to make a decision about a person or situation after considering all the information
context - the text or speech that comes immediately before and after a particular phrase or piece of text and that influence how it is used and what it means
pattern - a particular way in which something usually happens or is done; to be copied from something or to be very similar to something
register - to put information, especially the name of someone or something, on an official list or record
missing - something that is missing cannot be found because it is not where it should be
possibly - used when something is not certain
comprehend - to understand something completely
syllable - a single unit of speech, either a whole word or one of the parts into which a word can be separated, usually containing a vowel
meaning - the meaning of something is what it expresses or represents
listeners - someone who listens
emerge - to become known, especially as a result of examining something or asking questions about it
every time - used to say that you always like or prefer a particular thing
sentence - a group of words, usually containing a verb, that expresses a thought in the form of a statement, question, instruction, or exclamation and starts with a capital letter when written
string of words - a series or linear sequence of words as spoken or written
bat - 1. a specially shaped piece of wood used for hitting the ball in some games; 2. a small animal like a mouse with wings that flies at night
crane - 1. a tall bird with long, thin legs and a long neck; 2. a tall metal structure with a long horizontal part, used for lifting and moving heavy objects
homophone - a word that is pronounced the same as another word but has a different meaning or spelling, or both
multilingual - (of people or groups) able to use more than two languages for communication, or (of a thing) written or spoken in more than two different languages
eliminate - to remove or take away someone or something
language - a system of communication consisting of sounds, words, and grammar, or the system of communication used by people in a particular country or type of work:
come across - meet or find by chance
every few days - means "now and then", probably at least once or twice a week
fine-tuned - precisely adjusted for the highest level of performance, efficiency, or effectiveness
overwrite - writing on top of other writing.
avoid - to stay away from someone or something
initially - at the beginning
interweave - to twist together or combine two or more things so that they cannot be separated easily
acquisition - the process of getting something
disrupting - to prevent something, especially a system, process, or event, from continuing as usual or as expected
existing - used to refer to something that exists now; that exists or is being used at the present time
daytime - the period between the time when the sun rises and the time it goes down, or the part of the day that is neither evening nor night
unconscious - the part of your mind that contains feelings and thoughts that you do not know about, and that influences the way you behave
knowledge - awareness, understanding, or information that has been obtained by experience or study, and that is either in a person’s mind or possessed by people generally
